WA State Substance Abuse Awareness Prevention and Intervention
Prevention/Intervention Specialists serve K-12 students in schools throughout the ESD 112 region, with an emphasis on secondary students. Their goal is to increase the educational success of students by building a protective environment, increasing the resiliency of students who are at risk of drug use, and decreasing student use of harmful substances in schools served.
Members Include All ESD 112 School Districts
Funding consists of a grant from OSPI which is a mix of federal and state dollars. Local districts matching dollars are also included.
Grant funds are specifically used to place Prevention/Intervention Specialists in schools to implement comprehensive student assistance programs that address problems associated with substance abuse and violence. Prevention/Intervention Specialists provide early alcohol and other drug prevention and intervention services to students and their families; assist in referrals to treatment and help students transition back to school who have had problems of alcohol and other drug abuses.
