Mike Nerland has more than 30 years serving public schools as a teacher, athletic director, elementary, middle and high school principal, and superintendent. He is a seasoned educational leader whose skill at building relationships and partnerships inspires opportunity and success for students and educators alike. As a longtime superintendent for Camas Public Schools, Mike led successful efforts to pass two bond measures that generated $220 million in capital construction funding and managed a 38% enrollment increase from 2005 to 2015. Over that same time period graduation rates rose from 77% to 94%. As superintendent he also developed district wide early learning, pre-school and full day kindergarten programs and received 23 Washington Achievement Awards for academic performance.
Mike came to the Pacific Northwest from Wyoming, where he began his career as a special education and social studies teacher. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from South Dakota University and Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Wyoming. He has vast experience leading collaborative strategic planning efforts and implementing robust, successful educational programs in a variety of school settings.
