ESD 112 receives State publication and electronic media awards

The Washington School Public Relations Association (WSPRA) announced the list of Publication and Electronic Media Award winners and honored Educational Service District 112 in two categories.

The awards recognize outstanding education printed publications, photographs, newsletters, websites, and audio or video programs. Winning entries are given an Award of Excellence, Award of Merit or an Honorable Mention.

The awards, given to Educational Service District 112's Public Information Department, include:

  • Award of Excellence with a perfect score, Special Purpose Publication, Heidi Barnes and Evelyn Hambleton.
  • Award of Merit, Video/Audio Program for Chehalis School District, Rose Yandell.

State art show winners selected from ESD 112 region

The Superintendent’s High School Art Show is an annual event co-hosted by OPSI and the Washington Art Education Association (WAEA). High School students form all nine of the state’s ESDs participate in the artistic celebration each year. This year 11 pieces were chosen from ESD 112 to proceed to the State Art Show in Olympia. A group of art judges, Superintendent Randy Dorn, and Governor Christine Gregoire each vote for their favorite entries.

Four entries from ESD 112 were chosen as winners in this year’s state competition:

OSPI Staff Choice
  • Alison Kolberg, R.A. Long High School of Longview School District, Instructor Sandy Brown, Title: He walked away through the beach grass, making impressions in the sand, to surf the five oceans, following the sunset of the endless summer.
WSSDA
  • Rachel Del Vecchio, Mark Morris High School of Longview School District, Instructor Jan Stumph, Title: Hunter; WAEA
  • Nika Kermani, Colombia High School of White Salmon School District, Instructor Christy Kreps, Title: Kermani
Judges Choice
  • Danyel Mann, Kelso High School of Kelso School District, Instructor T.J.Frey, Title: Lives Without Color

All artwork is on display as OSPI through June 1. The display is open to the public business days, 8 a.m. -5 p.m. The Awards Ceremony will take place at OPSI in the Old Capital building on Friday, May 18 from 2-4 p.m.
